Ventilation & Smoke Control

Control Smoke Movement. Protect Evacuation Routes.

SYSTEM RELATIONSHIP

  1. Detection / control
  2. Fans / ductwork
  3. Dampers / protected spaces

Functional relationship only. Configuration, interlocks and compatibility require project-specific technical confirmation.

A smoke control and ventilation system uses smoke exhaust fans, make-up air equipment, pressurization fans, smoke and fire dampers, ductwork, and control systems to manage smoke movement during a fire.

When a fire occurs, the system activates the appropriate smoke exhaust equipment in response to fire alarm and control signals, removing smoke from the affected area while providing make-up air where required by the system design. Stairwells, lobbies, and other evacuation routes may be mechanically pressurized to create a positive-pressure environment and help limit smoke migration into protected escape paths.

Through coordinated smoke exhaust, make-up air, pressurization, and compartment control, the system helps maintain safer evacuation conditions and supports firefighting and rescue operations.
